I wished the cashiers at Rasa Alamanda Selamat Hari Raya, and i got the same reaction – they were taken aback, wide eyes, then they smiled and even chuckled before wishing me back.
Makes me wonder – is it so rare or so funny to wish strangers well wishes? I had some people who told me no need to do so cos nobody do that anymore.
Is common courtesy dead? Malays are supposed to be warm people towards each other, then why the cold advice? Have we gone so impersonal that even a smile is considered an oddity?
By the way – have you wish Selamat Hari Raya to strangers just because it makes you feel good to see their smile? Do it. You won’t regret it.
Much love, xoxo

Was it Buddha that said, “A thousand candles can be lit with a single candle. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” I love seeing warm smiles when I wish someone well. I’m glad you feel the same reward. 🙂
Hi Tara 🙂 Thank you for visiting my blog 🙂 Yup that was Buddha alright 🙂 Also in Islam, the Prophet Muhammad used to say “Your smile for your brother is charity.”
It’s amazing to think of all the good things that a smile can achieve 🙂
Have a great day, Tara!
